Part A: LMS Set Up

This week we subscribed to HaikuLearning. It is a LMS (learning management system). You can view mine by clicking HERE.

Part B: LMS reflection

In my initial discussion post I stated that I would rather not implement a LMS into my elementary level classroom. Now that I have worked with one I think it would be beneficial in older level elementary. Parents can easily access the content of a course and view assignments. I used the Calendar tool to plan due dates for assignments as well as indicating the date of an upcoming test. This is great for a blended learning space. Of course I would still get them to write it down in a take home journal but this way they can always have the acess to the information even if they forget to write something down, or misplace their day planner. I also used the assessments section to plan a practice quiz. This too is valuable due to its easy access. I can assign extra credit, and it automatically gives back marks. I will spend less time marking and in turn more time with students enhancing the face to face learning time. The other tool I played around with was discussion forums. Much like our Edu 210 class this discussion board can be a weekly post it's beneficial as it can be done at home though there is still interaction with students thorugh comments. It encourages discussion and debate among the students. When they express their opinions from the comfort of their own homes it is sometimes easier to hear the truth on what they are thinking. Often children can be shy and not want to speak up in class but with technology and typing a short discussion post they are more than comfortable.
